I used my favorite guitar mike, the Electro Voice RE-20 (mostly known as a bass drum mike), along with a Neumann vocal mike (KMS 105). The latter served a dual purpose: to give more treble than the RE-20 does, and to feed my Tube Reverb (a stand alone device a friend built for me).
So there were three tracks for just one guitar, mixed down to one stereo master track.
The console is a Mackie Onyx 1620 provided with a firewire interface. I use Logic Pro 7 recording software.
I positioned the mikes like I had learned from some online research: approx. inclined 22 degrees from the brim of the speaker cone towards the center. That’s what always worked for me.
Before I began recording like this, I did a lot of experimenting with different mikes, and finally ended up with those two combined…

You’ve achieved some great open tones with this series; a good advertisement for the Jaguar sound. How did you mic up the Champ for this and what recording gear do you use? Sure sounds great!

This one is great – one of your pieces I like the best so far. Glad about the happy ending. The music sounds like Robot skipping along and doing cartwheels because of his new love. Great feeling. It brought him to life. No longer a machine.
